1956 was an important year for Pontiac, with famed executive Buckie Knudsen taking the reigns at the General Motors' marque in the middle of the summer and with the division producing its six millionth automobile a month later.
The 1956 models were introduced to the public on October 21st however production had started on them a couple weeks earlier.
In '56, the Pontiac Motor Division offered two series, the budget friendly Chieftain and the more luxurious Star Chief, with both series coming in a variety of body styles.
With its additional exterior trim, the Star Chief had a higher level of sophistication from nearly every angle.
