Vehicle Description This 1929 Ford Model A Roadster is a beautifully preserved pre-war rumble seat roadster! While Henry Ford's Model T had taken the automotive world by storm from when it was introduced in 1908 and for nearly the next two decades, by the end of the 1920s, it had begun to fall out of favor and was, to some extent, perceived as old fashioned and sporting old technology such as 2 wheel brakes and a planetary gearset transmission.
Towards the end of May 1927, Ford shut down its Model T plant and anticipation grew for what Ford had up his sleeve.
On December 2, 1927, Ford officially introduced the brand-new Model A to much fanfare.
Far more complex than the Model T, the Model A contained approximately 6,800 unique parts whereas the old Model T had approximately 5,000.
The Model A also came equipped with modern (for the time) upgrades such as 4 wheel brakes and a standard shift transmission.
Besides the mechanical improvements, the Model A was also a vastly upgraded with regards to its style, considered far more beautiful than the basic Model T design.
Up front, the fenders were enlarged a bit and the radiator outlined was more curved and thus distinctive.
The bodies on the A had a beefier appearance than the T, which gave the new Model A a more substantial look.
A single combination tail and stop light capped off the rear end appearance of the Model A and further modernized Ford's car for the masses.
Reasonably priced, the Model A sold well in its first year of 1928 but Ford re-gained its first place position from Chevrolet in 1929 once word was out about how great the Model A truly was.
Today, the Model A remains a favorite among enthusiasts, with fantastic clubs and wide parts availability furthering Model A ownership into the future.
This particular example comes to us from a prominent east coast collection and previously spent time in the hands of a southern-based collector.
Under the hood is a 200.
5 Cubic Inch Inline 4 cylinder engine paired with a single barrel carburetor that together were said to have produced 40 horsepower when new.
The 201 inline 4 is backed by a 3 speed manual transmission that is shifted in a standard pattern and using a floor mounted shifter.
While most '29 Model A examples are scarce with regards to options, this particular roadster does sport several.
Siting atop the chrome radiator housing is an accessory Motometer-style hood ornament that gives the driver a better idea of the car's engine temperature.
A single side-mounted spare tire is another wonderful addition to any Model A and this one is topped with a chrome side view mirror which makes parking much easier.
Another neat feature is the Ah-Ooo-Gah horn with its unique sound harkens back to a bygone era.
In the rear is an accessory luggage rack so that you can bring your belongings with you on overnight cruises.
Riding on a set of wide whitewall bias-ply tires mounted on Straw-colored painted wire wheels, this '29 Model A Roadster has a classy look chugging down the road.
The black vinyl convertible top is in nice shape as well and, like all convertibles in the day, is raised and lowered manually.
The exterior of this 1929 Ford has been refinished in black paint, just how Henry Ford envisioned it.
The interior of this 1929 Ford Model A Roadster is superb! The black vinyl front bench seat along with the rear Rumble Seat have been reupholstered in black vinyl.
The black painted dash, upholstered door panels, steering wheel, and chrome instrument cluster are in wonderful condition as well and appear to remain in their stock configuration.
Instrumentation includes a 75 MPH speedometer, amp gauge, and fuel gauge.
Whether you're adding to an existing collection of Model A Fords or you're buying your first pre-war classic car, this 1929 Ford Model A Roadster would make an excellent addition to anyones collection.
