Vehicle Description This 1956 Continental Mark II was the pinnacle of luxury in its day and this particular automobile retains that elevated, opulent look.
In the early 50s, Edsel Ford's youngest son, William Clay Ford, led the newly created Special Product Operations division of Ford Motor Company.
The engineers and designers in Ford's Special Product Operations division were tasked with developing a worthy successor to Lincoln's highly prestigious Continental whose final year of production was 1948.
What Ford's team came up with was a design it deemed modern formal, a functional yet timeless design.
On October 16, 1954, William Ford announced to the company that its Special Product Division would become the Continental Division, Ford Motor Company's own top-of-the-line flagship brand, and that in 1955 the Continental Division would be introducing a high-quality low-production prestige automobile, the Mark II.
On October 6, 1955, the Continental Division debuted its brand new Mark II at the Paris Auto Show and like its predecessor, it became an instant classic.
With its nearly $10,000 price tag, everyone knew that this new Continental Mark II was a car of consequence.
With its long hood, short deck, tasteful chrome usage, and perfect proportions, the Mark II set the standard for how beautiful an American production car could be.
Under the hood is a 368 Cubic Inch V8 engine paired with a single 4 barrel carburetor that pushed out 300 horsepower in its day.
The 368 V8 is hooked up to an Automatic Transmission ensuring that any body can take this Mark II for a spin around the block.
1956 also marked the first year for 12 volt electrical systems on Ford products so this Continental starts up easy.
Being that the Continental Mark II was the flagship model, these cars came loaded with options.

With power brakes, bringing this Mark II to a stop is almost effortless.
Sitting on wide whitewall bias ply tires with full wheelcovers, this Continental has a truly classic look.
The exterior on this Continental Mark II has been refinished in a beautiful Starmist White which gives the car a classy look.
