Vehicle Description This 1947 Lincoln Continental Convertible is a wonderful CCCA Full Classic with a surprising amount of power and driveability, and has benefitted from on older restoration.
The Lincoln Continental's origin started back in 1939 when the President of Lincoln at the time, Edsel Ford, was driving around in a custom-built 1939 Lincoln Convertible Coupe modeled after the modern, aerodynamic designs seen in some of the high-end European marques at the time.
Edsel's custom-bodied Lincoln would end up serving as the inspiration for the replacement for the boxy, antiquated Model K, a car that would be known as the 1940 Lincoln-Zephyr Continental.
The Continental's unique design saw the removal of the outdated-looking running boards and the bodies were equipped with more glass, that together added to the futuristic art-deco look of the Continental.
The Continental was also both longer and lower than its predecessor, furthering the notion that the Continental's gorgeous design would be a bellwether of where the future of American automobile design was headed.
Of course the Continental's original momentum was brought to a complete halt in 1942 with the onset of World War II and a production stoppage of all of America's automakers in order to help with the War effort.
When World War II concluded in 1945 and American automobile production resumed, the resulting models were essentially re-trimmed versions of the pre-war models.
Debuted to the press on September 13, 1945, the new 1946 Lincoln Continental utilized the 1942 tooling and bodies with only slight cosmetic revisions just like the rest of America's 1946 cars.
The most noticeable post-war change to the Continental occurred to the grille which was enlarged considerably.
By the time 1947 rolled around, very little was changed with respect to the Lincoln Continental.
In fact, some Lincoln owners joke that the easiest way to tell the difference between a 1946 and 1947 model is to ask the car's owner since they are virtually indistinguishable.
The most expensive Lincoln in 1947 was the Lincoln Continental Convertible with an MSRP of nearly $5,000.
The lack of style changes didn't seem to bother Continental buyers a whole lot since the 1947 Lincoln Continental Convertible was produced in record numbers that year.
With that said however, the high price meant that the '47 Continental was only truly attainable by a small few and compared to less expensive marques production was quite low.
In total, a mere 738 Lincoln Continental Convertibles were produced in 1947 which makes this particular example quite a rare piece of automotive history.
Additionally, the Classic Car Club of America (CCCA) has deemed the 1947 Continental as a Full Classic due to its limited production, high original price, and overall beauty and distinction.
This particular example comes to from a southern-based owner who has owned and cared for the car for over 50 years.
Under the hood on this '47 Lincoln is a 305 Cubic Inch L-Head V12 engine fed by a single 2 barrel carburetor that together were said to have created 130 horsepower when new.
The 305 V-12 is backed by a 3 speed manual transmission that is shifted using a column-mounted 3-on-the-tree shifter.
Exhaust exits via a single exhaust port that generates a nice throaty sound out the rear.
Riding on a set of wide whitewall bias-ply tires mounted on steel wheels that are accented with a set of full wheelcovers and beauty rings, this '47 Lincoln has a gorgeous look whether you're cruising down the road or parked at the local car show.
A rear-mounted continental kit houses a spare tire on this namesake automobile.
The rear wheels are tucked behind a pair of fender skirts, further elevating this already gorgeous looking CCCA Full Classic.
The black cloth power convertible top is in wonderful condition and it goes up and down with the simple flick of a switch.
The exterior of this '47 Continental has been refinished in a beautiful Pace Car Yellow paint that completes the exterior appearance of the car.
The interior of this 1947 Lincoln Continental Convertible exudes luxury! The front and rear bench seats have been reupholstered in beautiful Oxblood Red leather.
The matching carpeting, upholstered door panels, painted dash, and steering wheel are in fantastic condition as well and appear to retain a nice stock appearance.
The instrument cluster is equipped with a 110 MPH speedometer, temperature gauge, oil pressure gauge, amp gauge, and fuel gauge.
The dash is finished off with an AM radio with and integrated speaker in the center, along with a clock and locking glovebox positioned in front of the passenger.
